Nuno scarves are woven on traditional looms for making obi sashes. Working together with obi weavers in Kiryu, a weaving town two hours north of Tokyo that developed from the Edo Period, we use the tsutsu-oritechnique typically used for formal kimonos and create scarf and throw designs more suited to contemporary clothes out of silk and cotton. Formal kimono sashes are usually 68cm wide; our Nuno scarves are finished to 68cm and 34cm widths.
